Caruso Men's Made-to-Measure Event

A quick reminder: the Caruso men's made-to-measure event is this Saturday.  Mr. Enzo Carroccia, one of their master tailors, will be here to take your measurements and help you select your fabric (along with us) for your fall suit or sport coat.  Caruso also makes trousers and vests.  It could be a great opportunity to order a three-piece suit (see below post regarding The Sting), or an unconstructed jacket in a cashmere or wool plaid or solid.  Think of it as a sweater jacket.  Custom made jackets start at $1795, suits at $2195.

This is our third trunk show with  Caruso, the legendary clothing maker from Saragna, Italy (near Parma), though we have carried the line for almost nine years now.  They offer a tremendous value and make when you consider the price and have many cuts to suit all body types: trim and fitted to fuller and more classic.  They use Carlo Barbera, Ermenegildo Zegna and Loro Piana fabrics among others.  Caruso is not a house-hold name yet in the US (which we prefer as it is one of our best-kept secrets) but they are sold in the best-of-the-best men's stores in Italy that have a similar selection to ours.  Stores that carry the likes of Kiton and Brioni, carry Caruso as well.  Learn more at www.raffaelecaruso.it

A Coat For Every Season

With the weather finally changing you may need to dig out some of your fall outerwear pieces now.  Outerwear (i.e. coats) is great because there are so many different types that vary by style, fabric and purpose: short, medium, long; waistcoat, car coat, overcoat; light, medium, heavy; wool, cashmere, blends of each, techno, waxed cotton, leather, linen (winter or summer), to name just a few.  Some coats go great with jeans. Others are better with suits or dresses.  Some can be worn with a jacket underneath, others replace the jacket. Whatever your outfit, take pride in the outerwear piece that you choose as it is a great way to complete your look.  Nothing is worse than seeing a guy in a shirt and pants scurry across the street when it's snowing outside.  It doesn't look macho.  It looks stupid. (Women generally have more sense than guys when it comes to paying attention to the weather.) It reminds me of this kid I went to grade school with (Jake was his name) whose parents allowed him (I suppose) to wear shorts on a day when it had snowed at least 4" by the time school had started.  He was sent home from school, instructed to put on a pair of pants.

In any case, relish the different occasions that you can wear a coat: right now you'll be wearing your transitional pieces (cotton coats or lighter weight wools).  As it gets cooler, layer your outerwear to stay warmer (a lighter vest under a coat is a good option).  And when the time comes to wear your heavier coats during the cold winter months, enjoy those days too.  Take the dog for a walk on a snowy day knowing you will be warm.  And don't wear shorts.
