Great Clothes, Great Movie: The Sting

The clothing or costuming in a movie is crucial.  If the clothing is wrong - especially in a period piece - the whole feel can be off.  That said, I recently watched The Sting again which I hadn't seen in years and had forgotten how great the clothing is in it.  Starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Robert Shaw (fantastic performance) among others, the suits are amazing - as well as the shirts, hats and overcoats.  Edith Head, the longtime and famous costume designer, won her eighth and final Oscar for The Sting in 1974. It makes you want to wear a natty three-piece chalk stripe suit and throw on your Fedora.  What's interesting is that three-piece suits seem to be making a comeback - and even better is that vests are being worn with jeans and chinos today which allows one even more versatility with their wardrobe.  If you haven't seen it in awhile be sure to watch it again when you have the chance - you won't regret it.

Save the date: Caruso trunk show with Enrico Di Giovanni and Caruso's master tailor Enzo Carroccia will be here on Saturday October 16th.  More on this later. (A great opportunity to order a three-piece suit).

John Malkovich Visits Store

As you may know, Mr. John Malkovich visited our store last month to present his Spring 2011 collection.  It was quite an honor.  He met with The Denver Post, Fox 31 News, and 5280, and a small reception followed.  You may recall an earlier blog post from last January in which we discussed his new line, Technobohemian by John Malkovich.  We bought the line for next spring (2011) and are one of but a few stores globally to carry it.  Not just any store can carry this line - nor would Mr. Malkovich necessarily want it in any store that desired it - it has to be the right fit for him and we are very thrilled that we are one of those special places.

He was very gracious with the media and our clients - and it was obvious that this is more than hobby for him.  The many hours he spends on this passion of his is evident from his eclectic designs and exquisite choice of fabrics.  Longtime fans of his (many will recall his earlier line Uncle Kimono/ John Malkovich which dissolved five years ago) will see some similar trademark styles such as the Laboutin jacket.  There are also many new styles that are just as evocative and sure to please such as Uncle Ho's shirt, the Freud's Garden jacket and Birth of the Modern sweater.

John Malkovich in Burn After Reading

Check out some of the pictures below and for those of you who haven't watched a Coen Brothers' classic which Malkovich stars in Burn After Reading, be sure to watch it.  Here's a classic scene courtesy of IMSDB.com:

Malkovich (Osbourne Cox) is being "reassigned" in the CIA to a lower security level for reasons unknown.  When hearing of this, the following transpires:
Osbourne
What the fuck is this?! Is it my -  - I know it's not my work.

Palmer (his boss)
Ozzie---

Osbourne
I'm a great fucking analyst .  . . is it -

Palmer
Oz - things are not going well as you know.

Peck (a lower level bureaucrat)
You have a drinking problem.
(stunned silence) Ozzie turns to look at Peck.  At length.

Osbourne
I have a drinking problem?

Palmer
This doesn't have to be unpleasant.  We found you something in State.  It's a uh -
(He gropes, uncomfortably.)

Palmer (cont'd)
... It's a lower clearance level.
Yes. But we're not, this isn't, we're not terminating you.

Osbourne
(quietly)
This is an assault.

Peck
Come on, Ozzie.
Osbourne
This is an assault. I have a drinking problem? Fuck you, Peck, you're a Mormon!

Peck
Ozzie----

Osbourne
Next to you we all have a drinking problem! Fuck you guys! Whose ass didn't I kiss? Let's be honest!
